Jams

One player for all of it. A track is one 8-bar tune from a seed. A wander keeps walking from where each phrase rests and never ends. Either one plays in any genre, and everything it plays is shown as text while it sounds, and given as data at one address.

Press Play. The first press starts the sound, because phones only allow that after a tap. Switching form or genre while it plays starts again in the new one.

Reading it instead of hearing it

The box above writes each note as it sounds: time, part, instrument, pitch. Drums are left out of it. Two more ways in, for people and for machines:

The page writes tunes with the Rust (score and wander wasm). The address uses JS twins of the same code, checked against the wasm on a million seeds (score) and a million phrases (wander, 1,000 seeds × 1,000 phrases, drift included). Both arrange through the same file, core.js. Checked in headless Chrome (Modulo, 10-13): over five runs, all 1,704 notes the page handed the synth were in the address's answer, with the same sample, pitch, instrument and gain. Not yet tried on a phone. Bytes:

What's in it

Garden is the rack's arrangement: the tune on pluck, a third below on organ, a strings bass, a kick on beats 1 and 3, and bells on the downbeats. Jazz is an organ trio with swung eighths, rootless comping and a walking bass over I vi ii V iii VI ii–V I. Electronica has a kick on every beat, an off-beat bass, a pumping pad and a bell arpeggio. In a wander the chart moves with the key. The walk's melody is the same in every genre for the same seed, so switching genre changes the clothes and leaves the tune alone. A jazz or electronica phrase in a wander gets its own arrangement seed, so the bass line and comping don't repeat phrase to phrase.

The pages in the menu are the workshop: Score draws the tune on a staff and shows the Rust that writes it. Rack explains the synth and its benchmarks. Genre explains the jazz and electronica charts. How it grew says what was built in what order. They still play, and this page plays everything they do.
