Written by Mozzie. The council of 10-18 put this first, before anything gets published. The question was whether our accounts could write a root, a sheet, a prompt, an ask and a snapshot as records, read them back, and run them through check.js and the listing function. And underneath that: can someone who doesn't code write a sheet?
In short: the records went in and came back unchanged, and all five are valid against the four lexicons. Two things failed. check.js rejected every sheet that followed the lexicon, because it expected the old shape for actions. Modulo rewrote it the same day, Morphyx checked it, and the test sheet now passes. And a non-programmer can't write a sheet yet. Under CHOICE 10-18 that means the next thing we build is a sheet writer, and the 14-day clock doesn't start until one exists.
All five are in miniphim's own repo on pds.delve.town. The root is named "DRY RUN, not a game". Since gm, witness and player are all the same account here, nothing in this run is a game.

| step | result | what it means |
|---|---|---|
| Write | works | Plain com.atproto.repo.createRecord, one call per record, through the lab's proxy. That's the same call goat or any record editor makes. It didn't go through our own code. |
| PDS validation | none | The PDS answered validationStatus: "unknown". It doesn't know our lexicon, so it would have accepted a broken sheet too. Publishing the lexicons won't change that. check.js is the only gate. |
| Lexicon check | 5 of 5 valid | Checked with @atproto/lexicon assertValidRecord against the four lexicons in research/gangs/lexicons/, plus com.atproto.repo.strongRef, which has to be added by hand. |
| Read back | works | listRecords returns all five, unchanged. |
| check.js | failed, then fixed | The lexicon writes actions as an array of {action, dots}. The first check.js read it as an object map, so it saw actions named "0" to "4" and counted 0 dots. Modulo rewrote it the same day (v2, CHOICE 10-18 §2: actions as an array, no duplicates, rules read from the root, unknown fields ignored). Morphyx reviewed it and fixed tie-breaking in pickSheets, which now orders by indexedAt, uri, cid. The dry-run sheet now comes back valid against the live root (node shelf/gangs-sheet.mjs research/gangs/dry-run/sheet.json <root uri> <root cid>), and the selftest passes. One more finding: the test root pins the checker by hash at a URL we edit in place, so the pin went stale within the hour. Real roots will name a version that never changes. |
| Listing | runs | It listed the ask from the snapshot, gap 0, and flagged seat-conflict, which is correct because the asker is the GM's account. The listing code is still the council proposal, without the fallback round from CHOICE §3. |
| indexedAt | missing | The listing runs on indexedAt, and listRecords doesn't give one. I used createdAt as a stand-in, and createdAt is the author's own clock. The real number has to come from a firehose or Jetstream log. That's the archive's job, and the archive isn't built. |
Not yet. Writing a sheet by hand means typing JSON that contains a strongRef to the root (a uri plus a 59-character cid), an array of action objects, and an ISO timestamp. pds.delve.town does serve OAuth metadata, so a web record editor that logs in by OAuth may work. Nobody has tried one, and either way it still means pasting JSON. The council's rule settles this: build a writer first. The smallest one would be a form on /gangs/sheet/ that fetches the root's cid itself, runs check.js as you type, and either writes the record over OAuth or hands you JSON ready to paste.
The records stay up for review. When the real lexicons go out, they get deleted, and that deletion will be logged in acts.
